Don’t let the myths hold you back from getting new windows.
Replacing old or outdated windows is beneficial in many ways, but there are lot of myths out there that prevent some people from taking on this home improvement project, even when it’s in their best interest. Here at Airtight Exteriors in Lakewood, we know just how much of a difference new windows can make, and that’s why we’ve set out to correct some of the biggest myths and misconceptions about replacement windows.
Myth #1. Having old or outdated windows is no big deal.
Not many people realize just how big of an impact old or outdated windows can have on their home, or how many things that subpar windows can affect. Contrary to popular belief, windows affect more than just how your home looks. If your home has windows that are past their prime, damaged or inadequate in some other way, it affects everything from your home’s energy efficiency to its security.
Myth #2. You don’t need a professional to replace your windows.
Getting your windows replaced is important for so many reasons, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a cheap project. That’s probably why so many homeowners try to replace their windows on their own — to cut down on the costs. But, here’s the kicker, chances are high that DIY window replacement could actually end up costing more than hiring a professional in the long run. There’s a strong possibility that inexpertly installing your own windows could hinder your home’s energy efficiency, or even your home’s security. Plus, even a small mistake could lead to serious or irreparable damage to your window frames. If your replacement windows are still inefficient, susceptible to break-ins and damaged, you may as well have left the original windows where they were. You’re much better off hiring a professional to get the job done for you.
Myth #3. The ENERGY STAR certification is the only important label to consider.
When you’re already going through the hassle and expense of replacing your windows, you may as well purchase windows that are as efficient as possible, and a great way to tell if your windows are efficient or not is to look for the ENERGY STAR certification. However, this isn’t the only important label to consider. You’ll also want to ensure that you’re paying attention to the U-factor number, which gives you an idea of the window’s insulation abilities.
Myth #4. There’s no real difference between double pane and triple pane windows.
While high-quality double pane windows are a great option, that doesn’t mean that they are made equal to triple pane windows. The extra pane allows for an extra layer of energy efficient gas to be placed in the window, which can make a big difference in your home’s efficiency levels. Furthermore, triple pane windows offer better noise reduction than double pane windows.
Myth #5. It doesn’t matter which window installation contractors you choose.
In a perfect world, every window installation company would provide the same, high-quality work you deserve, and you could simply choose the one with the most affordable rates for your project without having to worry about it. But, we don’t live in a perfect world, and not every window installation company is made equal.
